Abdurrahman Danquah is a filmmaker, visual artist, and arts programmer born and raised in Texas. Identity, faith, and connection recur throughout his work. Danquah holds a BA in Media Production from the University of Houston and is currently pursuing his MFA in Film & Media Production at UT Austin.
His short film YARDMAN won the Audience Choice Award at the Admit One: Analog Film Showcase and screened at the Houston Cinema Arts Festival. His earlier short, Iridescence, premiered at the Reel Poetry Film Festival and screened at Houston's River Oaks Theatre, one of the city's oldest cinemas. His photography has been exhibited at spaces including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, SANMAN, and Casa Luz. Danquah also serves as film curator for the Islamic Arts Society Film Festival.
He is currently working on his UT pre-thesis film, The Congregants. The short is about a mosque board refusing to give a proper Islamic burial to a suicide victim. The imam, Shaykh Raheem, must choose between the progress of the mosque and the honor of the people inside it.
